Until Monday, February 1st, no in person visits to the library are permitted, but library staff are still here for you during this time.

  • Library staff remain available Monday through Friday, 9am - 5pm via phone (413-662-5321) and email (
  • Doorside pickup is now available as an option for MCLA students, faculty, and staff who wish to borrow books, reserve items, or DVDs from the library collection. You can also pick up print jobs or borrow a laptop from the library. Contact us for more information on how to request items for pick up.
  • Librarians are available for research help via our Ask Us service, where we can answer questions via chat, email, phone, and text. This service is available Sunday 5pm-10pm, Monday through Thursday 9am-10pm, and Friday 9am-5pm.
  • You can also set up a one-on-one appointment with a librarian via Microsoft Teams, where we can share screens and have the next best thing to an in-person interaction.  

Regular spring semester hours for the library building will resume on on Monday, February 1st

Library Services for Spring 2021

You’ll notice some changes at Freel Library as we strive to provide outstanding support for teaching, learning, and research while prioritizing the safety of the MCLA community. Thank you for your cooperation as we navigate these unusual circumstances together.

Temporary Policies

  • Only current MCLA students, faculty, and staff may enter the library facility in Spring 2021.
  • All patrons must wear face coverings that cover the nose and mouth at all times while in the library building.
  • Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library this fall.
  • Everyone is expected to observe distancing guidelines and allow at least six feet between individuals.
  • Seating in the library is limited. Please do not sit outside of designated areas or move library furniture.
